Like the lekythos, this form has a greek origin. On the greek earthenware form the handles are rectangular and have geometric spaces within. With the stoneware I use, there is so much untwisting in the neck of the pot during the glaze firing that it made sense to work with that motion rather than try to overcome it. The wing like handles movement works in concert with twisting from the kiln.
